Healthier Eating and Physical Activity

Lifestyle modification is the first approach to managing a number of cardiovascular risk factors. Becoming and remaining smoke-free is the most obvious beneficial change that smokers can make, but everyone can benefit from eating a healthier diet and exercising regularly. For example, eating a healthy diet that is lower in fat, especially saturated and trans fat, low in salt and includes plenty of vegetables and fruit as well as whole grains can reduce the risk of high blood pressure. Eating more soluble fibre can help to reduce cholesterol levels. Losing weight can both reduce blood pressure and help prevent diabetes from developing.
