Head Coach, National Hockey League (1978-2006) & Canadian Men’s Olympic Hockey (2002 & 2006)

From 1998 until 2006, Pat Quinn was the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.  He was also general manager of the Leafs from 1999 to 2003.

In 2002, Pat led Canada to a gold-medal win as head coach of the Men's Olympic Hockey Team in Salt Lake City.  Pat also coached Team Canada to a championship in the World Cup of Hockey in September 2004.

During his career, Pat has coached the Philadelphia Flyers (1978-82), Los Angeles Kings (1984-87), and Vancouver Canucks (1990-96). Pat won the NHL's Jack Adams Award for best coach in 1979/80 while with the Flyers and again in 1991/92 during his time with the Canucks. He is one of only three coaches in league history to win this award with two different teams.

Pat started his NHL career as a defenceman with the Leafs (1968-70), then with the Canucks (1970-72), and the Atlanta Flames (1972-76).

Pat grew up in Hamilton, Ontario and now resides in Toronto with his wife, Sandra. They have two daughters and three grandchildren.

PAT'S CONNECTION TO HIGH CHOLESTEROL

During the 2002 NHL playoff season, Pat had a heart scare and was hospitalized with heart arrhythmia. At that time, Pat was also diagnosed with high cholesterol. Since his diagnosis, Pat has been committed to his heart health by losing weight, changing his diet, quitting cigar smoking, and increasing his physical activity.

"For me, like so many other Canadians, lifestyle changes were not enough to control my high cholesterol. Believe me, I've tried. So, in addition to maintaining those great healthy lifestyle choices, I also take medication to keep my cholesterol down. I could have been doing several things for years to protect my heart, but I thought I was indestructible. I have had my wake-up call, and am determined to keep my heart healthy, which includes a lifelong commitment to managing my cholesterol levels."
